Spicy Desi
Turning Up The Heat, Desi-Style.
Spicy Desi brings their community together with rich, authentic Indian flavors in easy, healthy handheld bites. Spicy Desi has been a standout in the Atlanta food truck scene since it opened two years ago. Friends and partners Prasad Raju, Prathvind Bejgum, and Deb Das have endeavored to make Indian cuisine accessible through their clever use of the traditional tandoor grill, a healthy alternative to frying.
A large, vase-shaped clay oven, the tandoor has been used since ancient times across parts of Asia to bake unleavened breads like roti and naan, as well as to grill meats. Long marination times, house crafted masalas, and slow and low cooking ensure chicken preparations maintain their deep seasonings, spice, and tenderness. The chicken wings, chicken tikka, and paneer tikka are served as skewers or can be turned into a bowl, a wrap, or a taco. Momos with a house gravy and flaky somosas, also delight diners’ palates while mango Lassi are available to tame unruly spice.
Listening and adapting to their clients has been of the utmost importance, Spicy Desi appeals to a spectrum of palates, this is authentic Indian made for global palates. The group boasts multiple trucks in Atlanta and has franchised one in Chicago with more on the way. “We are taking tasty food all over the country and that’s the whole idea,” says Prasad.
